Update on Ficedula’s project to support this species

The Balestruccio Project Continues

Another 20 new cases being monitored for colony conservation

In 2024, Ficedula’s “Conservation of Balestruccio Colonies” project continued.

Specifically, 20 cases (16 of which were new) were monitored, including: ten construction sites, five conflict situations, and five other cases/consultations.

Among the construction sites, one project certainly worth noting is a major real estate development near the center of Stabio, which involved the demolition of numerous existing buildings, some of which housed (inventoried) Balestruccio nests.

A new colony of the Eurasian tree sparrow has been recorded in Personico. The ongoing updating of the inventory is important for filling gaps in our knowledge of the species’ distribution and for ensuring the most comprehensive protection possible of all nesting sites.
