Welcome, Lepontino III
On June 13, 2026, the new Gipeto from Ticino took flight!
Lepontino III has taken off!
Last Saturday, June 13, Lepontino III easily left his nest. His parents will continue to care for him for a few weeks.
The pair of bearded vultures that has been a permanent resident in Ticino since at least 2020 laid an egg for the first time in 2021: the egg hatched, but the chick survived only a couple of weeks. The same thing happened again in 2022, with the same outcome.
In 2023, the nesting was successful, with the young bird fledging. In 2024, the young bird survived in the nest for only one month. In 2025 and 2026, the eggs hatched and the young birds fledged.
A dynasty is taking shape!
As in other regions of Switzerland, it is likely that more same-sex couples will settle in Ticino as well.
