It’s that time of year again for the Little Ringed Plover’s migration. This rare shorebird is, in fact, a long-distance migrant that breeds in the Arctic and mountainous regions of Europe and Asia and winters in northern and eastern Africa. During migration, it uses open, quiet areas such as alpine pastures, plateaus, and arid lands. It prefers bare or low-vegetation habitats, often at high elevations, where it blends in perfectly with the ground.
