The Wood Pigeon is a large bird, characterized by predominantly gray plumage with green and pink highlights on its neck. It feeds mainly on seeds, berries, and grains, but also eats acorns and small invertebrates. Known for its distinctive repetitive call, the wood pigeon is a partial migrant in some regions, while in others it is resident. It prefers wooded habitats but can also adapt to urban parks and gardens. Between April and August, it builds rudimentary nests in trees, where it lays two eggs. It is one of the few species that produces “pigeon milk,” a highly nutritious substance it uses to feed its young.
