The Common Swift has completely black plumage with brownish highlights and a distinctive sickle-shaped wing. It spends most of its life in the air, even sleeping while flying. It feeds on insects caught in flight. Swifts are long-distance migrants; they spend the winter in sub-Saharan Africa. They nest in cavities in urban buildings, with the nesting season running from May to July.
