Description
The Wood Duck is a medium-sized duck native to North America, famous for the male’s extraordinarily colorful plumage, with metallic green, purple, and white iridescence. The female is more subdued, with grayish-brown tones and a distinct white ring around the eye. This species is associated with forested areas with calm waters and nests in tree cavities. In Europe, it is often seen in parks and ponds, where it is primarily kept as an ornamental species.
