The Chestnut-headed Grassquit is a small passerine with mottled plumage in shades of brown and white. It has a dark brown stripe on its head and a white breast with dark spots. It feeds mainly on seeds and small insects. It prefers habitats such as open forests and wooded areas along waterways. It nests on the ground or in bushes, building nests out of grass and twigs.
