The Little Ringed Plover is a distinctive shorebird. It has distinctive plumage with brown upperparts and a white band above the eye. Its underparts are reddish during the breeding season. It feeds mainly on insects and small invertebrates, which it often catches while walking rapidly across open ground. It is a long-distance migrant, traveling from its nesting areas in northern Europe and Asia to wintering grounds further south. It prefers open habitats, such as alpine tundra and mountain grasslands. The breeding season occurs during the Arctic summer, with simple nests built on the ground. In the Little Ringed Plover, the male is primarily responsible for incubating the eggs.
