Egret is a medium-sized bird, known for its predominantly white plumage with a distinctive yellowish tinge on its head and neck during the breeding season. This species feeds primarily on insects and small vertebrates, often following grazing animals to capture prey that is disturbed by their passage. It prefers open habitats such as grasslands and farm fields. The Cattle Egret nests primarily in mixed colonies, along with other herons and related species, in trees and shrubs, preferably located near or within wetlands.   <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8b133c4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8b133c4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Situation in Italian-Speaking Switzerland<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f69e84a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f69e84a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 20\"><div class=\"section\"><div class=\"layoutArea\"><div class=\"column\"><p>The increase in populations south of the Ticino River\u2014also aided by a series of mild winters\u2014has led to a growing presence of vagrant individuals. At first, these were isolated individuals: the first record for Ticino was made at Bolle di Magadino on April 15, 2002. The first winter sighting, however, was in Mendrisio on January 18, 2004. It was not until 2008 that the species began to be reported annually at at least six different locations in the canton. It was not until 2020 that a more widespread presence was observed, with groups of dozens of individuals. The Mendrisiotto region records the highest numbers: ranging from a few dozen to over 80 individuals at a time. The all-time record was set in Campagna Adorna in Genestrerio, where 100 individuals were observed on February 16, 2024. In addition to Mendrisiotto, the regions most affected are the Lugano area and the Magadino Plain, though sporadic sightings are now also occurring in the Sopraceneri valleys.       <\/p><div
