class=\"font_8\">The cuckoo, known for its distinctive call, is a medium-sized bird that resembles a small hawk. It has gray plumage on its head, back, and chest, while its underparts are barred with black and white. This species is a brood parasite; it lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, leaving them to raise its young. Cuckoos feed mainly on insects and larvae, particularly hairy caterpillars, which are often avoided by other species. They are trans-Saharan migrants, wintering in Africa and returning to Europe to nest in the spring. They prefer open habitats with scattered shrubs and trees, such as deciduous forests, forest edges, and agricultural areas. Nesting occurs between April and July.      <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8b133c4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8b133c4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The Situation in Italian-Speaking Switzerland<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f69e84a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f69e84a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In Switzerland, the Cuckoo has experienced a significant, though not drastic, decline in recent years. However, in Ticino, the species appears to be well distributed almost everywhere except in built-up areas and those with intensive agriculture. The species\u2019 preferred habitats include floodplain forests, wetland areas with shrubs, deciduous and mixed forests, and semi-open landscapes extending up to just above the tree line.
