Description
The Little Grebe is a small waterbird with a compact body and a short neck. Adults have predominantly dark brown plumage with reddish hues on the neck and head during the breeding season. It inhabits lakes, ponds, and marshes with abundant aquatic vegetation. The Little Grebe feeds mainly on small fish, aquatic insects, and crustaceans. During the breeding season, it builds floating nests hidden among the vegetation. The breeding season occurs mainly between spring and summer.
