Description
The Snow Bunting is characterized by white plumage with black spots on its wings and back, which stand out particularly well in flight. Males are generally whiter than females. This species feeds primarily on seeds and insects, adapting its diet to different food sources depending on the season. This migratory species makes long journeys between its Arctic nesting grounds and more temperate wintering grounds. It prefers open habitats such as tundra and grasslands during the breeding season, while in winter it can be seen in fields and along coastlines. The breeding season occurs between June and August, with nests built well-hidden among the rocks. These birds can tolerate very low temperatures thanks to their dense plumage.
