The Black Grouse is a medium-sized bird belonging to the Tetraonidae family. Males are distinguished by their glossy black plumage with blue highlights, a forked tail, and a red crest above their eyes. Females, on the other hand, have mottled brown plumage that helps them blend into their surroundings. The species feeds primarily on shoots, berries, and small insects. During the breeding season, males perform spectacular courtship dances accompanied by loud vocalizations. Their preferred habitat includes heathlands, coniferous forests, and alpine areas. They nest on the ground, and females lay their eggs between April and June.
