The Shoveler is a medium-sized duck characterized by a broad, shovel-shaped bill, adapted for filtering food from the water. Males have an iridescent green head, a white breast, and brown flanks, while females have more camouflaged plumage, predominantly brown. Its diet consists mainly of plankton, aquatic insects, and floating plants. They nest in wetlands with abundant vegetation. The nest is often located on the ground, near the water. The breeding season runs from April to June.
