The Gray Heron is a large bird, characterized by a slender body and long legs. Its plumage is predominantly gray with darker shades on the wings and back, while the neck is white with black streaks. The head is adorned with a black cap. It feeds mainly on fish, frogs, and small aquatic invertebrates, which it catches with its long, pointed bill. This heron prefers wetland habitats such as lakes, rivers, and marshes. Nesting occurs in the spring; the species is colonial, and nests are built in trees.
