European Greenfinch

FICEDULA > European Greenfinch

Description

The Red-winged Blackbird is a small bird. The male has a bright red breast, while the female has paler tones on her belly. Both sexes have black wings and tails, a gray back, and a distinctive short, sturdy beak. It feeds mainly on seeds, shoots, and berries. It is known for its sweet, melodious song and is often seen in pairs or small groups. It prefers mixed forests. The nesting season begins in the spring, when it builds nests well hidden among the vegetation.
