The Stonechat has plain, camouflaged plumage, predominantly brownish-gray, with darker streaks on the back and a slight pinkish tinge on the breast during the breeding season. It feeds mainly on insects and small invertebrates, but in winter it supplements its diet with seeds and berries. It nests on the ground, often in open, rocky mountainous or hilly habitats. The breeding season runs from April to July, with 4–5 eggs laid per clutch.
