The Water Thrush is a medium-sized bird, recognizable by its dark plumage and distinctive white breast. It is the only European passerine capable of diving and swimming underwater in search of aquatic insects, larvae, and small fish. It can be found in streams and rivers with shallow, fast-flowing water. The dipper’s song is often audible above the sound of the flowing water. It nests between March and May, building dome-shaped nests near the water, often under bridges, among rocks, or even behind waterfalls. It may also walk along the riverbed in search of food.
