The Common Snipe is a medium-sized bird characterized by a long, straight bill and brown, camouflaged plumage with light and dark streaks. It feeds mainly on invertebrates that it finds in the mud using its sensitive bill. It is known for its rapid, zigzagging flight and for the unique sound produced by its feathers during courtship flight. It prefers wet habitats such as marshes, peat bogs, and wet meadows. It nests on the ground, usually between April and July, typically laying 3–4 eggs.
