The Alpine Grouse is a small tetraonid with brown and gray camouflaged plumage, featuring white spots on the breast and black and white bands on the tail. This species is known for its very shy behavior. It feeds on buds, leaves, berries, and insects. The male’s call is a high-pitched, melodious whistle. It lives mainly in coniferous and mixed forests, particularly in mountainous areas. The breeding season occurs between April and June, with the female laying 6 to 12 eggs in a nest well hidden among the underbrush.
